I am an employer, can I require my staff to show a health pass?Last update: 14/03/2022
Broadly speaking, employers cannot require staff to show a health pass in order to attend work. There are some exceptions, however:
Since 30 October 2021, the date of entry into force of the law on mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for some categories of people working or acting as a volunteer, pupil or student in Monegasque healthcare facilities (hospitals, clinics, etc.) or facilities for elderly people or people with disabilities, or in contact with elderly or vulnerable people, these individuals have been required to show a vaccination schedule proving that they have received the full course of vaccination. Employees working in the following roles are also covered by this requirement: doctors, dental surgeons, midwives, pharmacists or pharmacy assistants, healthcare assistants, osteopaths, all non-healthcare staff working with one of the professionals listed above who have direct contact with said professional’s patients, all service personnel in the Monegasque Fire and Emergency Service, anyone acting in a capacity as a home help to people aged 60 or over, dependent persons and people with disabilities, and finally anyone working in medical transport. Vaccination against COVID-19 provides highly effective and reliable protection against the disease not only for those who are vaccinated, but also for those they come into contact with.
As such, the aim of this law is to protect these groups, who are at particularly high risk of infection from the SARS-CoV-2 virus, for their own sake and for the sake of the vulnerable or fragile people that they look after.
